Helpful tips when recycling your food scraps:

Medication & Sharps Disposal

Safe Medication Disposal Program

The Golden Rain Foundation partners with At Your Door Special Collection to provide environmentally responsible medication disposal. This program prevents pharmaceutical contamination of water systems, as treatment facilities cannot remove these compounds from wastewater.

Drop-off Location: Gateway Complex - Yellow secure collection box between Library and Oak Room

Sharps Disposal

Used medical needles (sharps) cannot be placed in household garbage. Sharps can be disposed of in the red box at Gateway located in the lobby by the main parking lot near the Library and the Oak Room. It is next to the yellow drug disposal box.

Drop-off Location: Gateway Complex - Red sharps container in main parking lot lobby (adjacent to medication disposal box)

Hours: Accessible during Gateway operating hours

Environmental Warning: Never dispose of medications via household drains or toilets. These substances persist through water treatment and contaminate environmental water systems.

Safety Protocol: All sharps must be in approved, sealed sharps containers. Never dispose of loose needles. Follow all posted instructions at the disposal site.

Corporation Yard Recycling Facility

Monitoring: Staff-supervised during operating hours

Compliance Note: This facility maintains detailed logs to meet City of Walnut Creek requirements for 50% minimum recycling on permitted projects.

A minimum of 10 appointments a day is required for the truck and a technician to come to Rossmoor. Items picked up include computers, TVs, refrigerators, washers, microwaves, printers and more. The rule of thumb for e-waste is if it has a cord or needs a battery, the company will take it. The company also accepts small items made predominately of some type of metal, such as small tables, chairs and tools. It does not accept aluminum cans for recycling.

Some items have a fee for handling and recycling, which must be paid by the resident at the time of scheduling. The recycle rates are:

Disposal Guidelines

Mattresses and box springs cannot be disposed of at the Corporation Yard facility. Residents must arrange for special pickup or self-transport to an approved facility.
